Martyn has been the Rector since 2003 but has been on the staff at St George’s since 1996. He is married to Philippa and they have three teenage children. Apart from Stamford he has a heart for the Karamoja region in Uganda and makes regular mission trips there. He is a member of the General Synod and a canon of Lincoln Cathedral. Martyn enjoys music (his first degree), running, and following the exploits of AFC Bournemouth.
Associate Rector: Ben Topham
Ben joined the team in 2020, and supports Martyn in the day to day running of the church, and leads the staff team. He is married to Lenny, and they have two children. Ben has a heart to see people who don’t know Jesus turning to him in faith, and seeing people maturing as disciples of Jesus Christ. In his spare time, Ben enjoys anything outdoors (fishing, walking, camping) and anything techie (computers and gadgets).
Richard joined the staff team at the beginning of July 2018. He and his wife Sally and their two boys settled at St George’s in the Spring of 2018 after a number of years worshipping in Bourne, where Richard was an elder at the Baptist Church. Richard worked as a Modern Languages teacher in two local schools for 15 years before being called into full time pastoral ministry. He completed two years’ training at Mattersey Hall Bible College in June 2018 in preparation for joining the church staff team as an assistant pastor. Sally teaches Modern Languages at Spalding High School. Interesting fact: Richard used to run 400m for Great Britain!
Lorraine joined the staff team in September 2018 as a self supporting minister, having completed her curacy in Addlestone, Surrey. Prior to this, she worked for 32 years in the IT industry. Lorraine became a licensed lay minister in 1996 and served for many years alongside her late husband who was on staff at Holy Trinity Hounslow. She enjoys visiting her family in Mississippi, watching action films, scuba diving and being out in the countryside.
Debs joined the staff team as Pastoral Worker in July 2016 following on from her work as a self-employed counsellor in private practice. She is married to Phil who works for the Methodist Church in Stamford and Rutland. They have 2 grown up children, Abby and Nathan. She enjoys music, reading, long walks in the countryside and charity shops.
Liz has been at St George’s for over 11 years and became a churchwarden in 2013. She is married to Simon who is Head of School at William Hildyard C of E Primary School in Market Deeping, and also a worship leader in the church. They have 2 boys. Liz is a Barrister who has been working in-house for the Crown Prosecution Service for over 15 years, and has just become a trustee of New Wine. She is a keen runner.
Jaish and his family moved to Stamford in 2016 and have been active members of St Georges since. He is married to Carolyn, a languages teacher at Brooke Priory School in Oakham and they have two boys, Henry age 12 and Archie age 9. Jaish is a GP and Medical Leader who has recently left the Regular Army after 22 years, although he still has a Senior Leadership role in the Reserves which he combines with clinical work in the local area. Jaish is a keen mountaineer, time expired rower and enthusiastic skier.
Treasurer: Keith Roberts
Keith had an international career as a Statistician in a Management Consultancy company. His wife Chris (a teacher of the deaf) was christened, confirmed and married (to Keith) in St George’s. The life plan was always to retire here – realised in 2013. Keith likes anything to do with numbers, maps and audiovisuals, as well as teaching in Children’s Church.
Clare joined the staff team in June 2018 in the role of Operations Manager after many years working in industry. She is responsible for overseeing all the activities and operations that will facilitate the smooth running of St George’s church, the Hub office team, HR, church policies and compliance. Clare has been at St George’s for 27 years where she has been a long-term volunteer in Youth and Children’s ministry from the 90’s.
Claire joined the staff at St George’s as receptionist in September 2017. She has been married to Sean for 23 years, and together have three children, and a slightly mad dog. Claire has a degree in theology and a passion for apologetics and church administration She spends any spare time baking, knitting, reading and wandering around charity shops.
Church Administrator: Becky Goff
Becky joined the staff team in October 2018. She has had a varied career in administration which has included working in central and local government, charities, inner London schools and the private sector. She has been married to Colin for 23 years and they have no children, but adore their crazy cats, Bumble and Misty. She moved to Stamford in 2011 following a period of time living and working in London but spent most of her childhood and early adulthood in mid Norfolk. She recently led a project to develop and improve the All Saints’ Church Centre for community use. In her free time she enjoys photography, walking and reading.
Joseph joined the staff team in 2016. He is originally from Stamford and has recently returned to the town , after studying Theology and Evangelism at university . before going to university, he completed a certificate in Christian Youth Ministry (JNC Youth Support Worker) with the Diocese of Peterborough. When time allows he enjoys watching a good TV drama and spending time with friends.
Louise and her family have been worshipping at St. George’s since they moved to Stamford in November 2015. Louise is married to Adrian who is a guitar teacher. They have two young girls under 4. Louise has previously worked as a Youth project co-ordinator, and as a programme facilitator to reduce reoffending in Prison. Louise started working part-time for the church in August 2018 and she also manages the foodbank in Stamford.
CAP Centre Manager: Simon Jary
Simon has been on the church staff since October 2011 when he became the manager of the Christians Against Poverty (CAP) centre. He has three children and four young grandchildren. Apart from his passion to help those struggling with debt he also travels around the east region presenting about CAP’s ministries to agencies and other churches. He is a lifelong fan of Tottenham Hotspur and enjoys trying to keep fit at a local gym. He also enjoys reading, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
Discipleship Year Student: Lilian Sparkes
Lilian joined the staff team in October 2019, as a Discipleship Year Student, after taking part in the Star Fish project in Uganda , which was led by Liz and Mo Power. She has previously studied Forensic Science at college, and worked in a Christian Bookshop in Southend. She has a bearded dragon called Luna, enjoys painting, TV crime dramas, eating cake and spending time with friends and family.
